Wrangell St. Elias News (WSEN) is published six times a year from the historic mining community of McCarthy, Alaska. McCarthy is situated 4 miles south of Kennecott, where the Kennecott Copper Corporation got its start.

The area has a permanent population of about 45 residents. However since 1980, when the surrounding 12 million acres were established as a national park and preserve, summer visitation has grown to an estimated 25,000. Seasonal workers swell the population from May through September.
